This past Sunday, God was yelling at me! Has that ever happened to you? I wasn't expecting it. There I was in Sunday School and we had a "fill in" teacher since our associate pastor was out of town. Carl was his name. Carl continued the text that we were already going through. We were looking at a text in Mark 11. Mark 11:22 is what stuck out to me! Simply put, Jesus said, "Have faith in God." Then Jesus goes on to talk about how powerful God is and what that faith in God is capable of. There was a lot of things that we considered from within that text, but God was screaming that verse at me: "HAVE FAITH IN GOD!!!"
So, what did that mean? How often have we long for God to do something miraculous or incredible? We ask God, or beg Him, to do give us something, or give us something that we cannot afford. We treat God like a "super power" ability that a comic book hero might have. We focus on the in-obtainable object that we want (or we might be even able to say that we need). We simply see God as a means to an end. Honestly, we may truly believe in God's ability to do what we are praying for. But it is wrong with this picture is our focus! I have to be honest. I believe that God is capable and willing. The problem is with me! I have been placing my faith in God, but only for what I needed, not just because my faith needs to be in Him alone! Let me try to explain. The desires of my faith were simply in what I need. It has been very self-centered. My faith, our faith, has to be in God alone! Let God be God! Let me give a modern day parallel: when you were a little kid, did you believe that your parents would take care of you? Of course! Did you have to concentrate on your belief in that idea? No. You simply believe without much effort. Can you say that your faith is just like that? Do you simply lay your existence, your being, your life, your needs, your desires, at His feet? FAITH IN GOD! He is ALL we need! No man, no government, no bank, no job, no _______ (you fill in the blank) can take care you! My faith/my life must/has to be in God and leave the details of my life to Him. There are plenty of examples this throughout the the Scriptures (e.g., Abraham, Moses, Joseph, the Disciples, Paul, etc.). IS YOUR FAITH IN GOD (PERIOD)?! DOES IT STOP THERE?! (With God's help, mine will be! Lord, help me when I fail to do so!)
